The Sound of Science Uiterlijk vertoont de 6000A sterke gelijkenis met de 8300A met zijn draaiknoppen en grote, centrale OLED-display. In tegenstelling tot zijn duurdere, alleen analoge broer, bevat hij hoogwaardige D/A-conversie, waardoor digitale bronnen rechtstreeks kunnen worden aangesloten zonder een externe DAC. Het levert vier digitale ingangen, drie analoge ingangen op lijnniveau, een ingang voor een platenspeler, draadloze connectiviteit via Bluetooth en een speciale hoofdtelefoonversterker, naast de mogelijkheid om luidsprekers aan te sturen. Digitale schakelingen Er is veel moeite gedaan om ervoor te zorgen dat het digitale circuit van de 6000A het kwaliteitsniveau levert dat je mag verwachten van een krachtige stand-alone DAC. Zoals altijd heeft Audiolab zich tot de ES9018 Sabre32 Reference-chipfamilie gewend om D/A-conversie uit te voeren, gebruikmakend van de 32-bits HyperStream-architectuur en Time Domain Jitter Eliminator van ESS Technology om ultralage ruis en een hoog dynamisch bereik te leveren. Geen enkel bedrijf weet meer over het optimaal benutten van deze technisch uitstekende, maar uitdagende DAC-technologie dan Audiolab. Analoge schakelingen De discrete klasse AB-eindversterkertrap van de 6000A levert 50 W per kanaal in acht ohm, met een maximale stroomafgifte van 9 ampère bij moeilijke belastingen. De uitgangstrap van de discrete eindversterkercircuits maakt gebruik van een CFB-topologie (Complementary Feedback), wat zorgt voor superieure lineariteit en uitstekende thermische stabiliteit, aangezien de ruststroom onafhankelijk wordt gehouden van de temperatuur van de uitgangstransistors. Een substantiële 200VA ringkerntransformator, gevolgd door een reservoircapaciteit van 4x15000uF (60000uF in totaal), helpt de versterker om de muziek stevig onder controle te houden en tegelijkertijd een uitstekend dynamisch bereik mogelijk te maken. Het voorversterkergedeelte is zo eenvoudig mogelijk gehouden om de signaalzuiverheid te behouden, met lijningangssignalen die naar een nauwkeurige analoge volumetrap gaan. De laatste bestrijkt het bereik van -80dB tot +8dB in stappen van 2dB en 1dB (stapresolutie neemt toe met de volumepositie). Er is veel aandacht besteed aan de fysieke lay-out van het circuit van de 6000A, waardoor het gevoelige voorversterkergedeelte wordt beschermd tegen ruisinterferentie.
De W-1200 is een dubbele cassettedeck met twee eenrichtingscassettespelers, microfoonmixer, een digitale USB-uitgang en andere veelzijdige opnamefuncties. De afgelopen tijd hebben cassettebanden ook mensen gefascineerd, die ze nog nooit hebben gebruikt, dankzij hun warme, kenmerkend analoge geluid, om nog maar te zwijgen over het gemak een opname te maken en de mogelijkheid om ‘mixbanden’ te creëren. TEAC heeft een cassettedeck gemaakt, die een uitstekend prestatieniveau combineert met een interface, die past bij het digitale audiotijdperk. De W-1200 biedt niet alleen geluid dat dicht bij het origineel ligt, maar beschikt ook over een breed scala aan veelzijdige faciliteiten waarmee karaoke, het opnemen van conferentienotulen en zelfs het digitaal opnemen van analoge cassettes via een computer mogelijk is. De twee cassettedecks ondersteunen het opnemen en afspelen op elke daarvan, omdat ze onafhankelijke aandrijfmechanismen hebben, wat betekent dat u tegelijkertijd op beide decks kunt opnemen om twee identieke tapes in één keer te maken. En dankzij de microfooningang en -mixer kunt u uw karaoke-talent oefenen met een cassetteband of een externe geluidsbron (via LINE IN). De tientallen jaren ervaring van TEAC bij het maken van opnameapparatuur zijn duidelijk zichtbaar in de W-1200, vooral als het om het ruisonderdrukkingssysteem gaat. Hiermee kunnen gebruikers oudere cassettebanden afspelen die oorspronkelijk met Dolby B NR zijn opgenomen en deze correct horen. Bovendien kunt u met de pitch-regelaar de afspeelsnelheid wijzigen zoals u zelf wilt, terwijl de VU-meters de mogelijkheid bieden om de opnameniveaus nauwkeurig in te stellen. Er is een timer REC/PLAY-functie waarmee men een audiotimer van derden kan gebruiken. Bovendien kan de W-1200 digitale audio van CD-kwaliteit (tot 48 kHz/16-bits PCM) via een USB-kabel naar een computer sturen, zodat u een digitaal cassetteband-archief kan opbouwen. Als u ze eenmaal op een computer hebt gedigitaliseerd, kunt u overal en altijd van uw oude muziekbibliotheek op tape genieten via een netwerkspeler, DAP, smartphone of zelfs in uw auto. De W-1200 biedt een hoge standaard van betrouwbaarheid als opnameapparaat, in combinatie met geavanceerde digitale technologieën, en biedt in het moderne tijdperk een nieuwe standaard voor dubbele cassettedecks.
